Black bugs

We have small black beetle type bugs invading our flowers, not black fly.  They seem attracted to mainly white flowers/bright yellow stamens.  Any tips on what they might be and how to be rid of them?

I've got them as well on my pale flowers, I'd love to know what they are too

They're pollen beetles, don't tend to do much harm. Seem to be, like black fly this year, LOADS of em!! Don't wear a bright green, orange or yellow t-shit, they seem to love those colours "-)

  • We have lots of them here in essex too.never seen em before, they make tiny holes in petals.as you say not much damage but annoying

Thanks everyone for your replies, they don't do much harm, only a bit of a nuisance.

We gave up growing Sweet peas because  we just could not get rid of them from inside the flowers when they were picked for the house. Harmless creatures which do as much pollinating as bees at this time of year, but a bit of a nuisance in cut flowers.

I didn't know we had beetles that pollenate plants! They were enjoying my roses last night so I shall leave them be

Think about it Tooey. Any insect which crawls into a flower and gets covered in pollen and then goes to another flower is going to flower is helping will pollination.

There are bats and monkeys and bird in other parts of the world which do it too!
