Husband has just come back from the barber's, and informed me whilst he was waiting, he was reading the paper and we are apparently in for temperatures down to minus 18 degrees (celcius). Now he's really peed off, as he's just made a batch of biodiesel and fed it to my land rover, which he regularly pinches when it's bad weather (as Chuggaboom will always get you home, no matter what the weather throws at it). The only problem is the car doesn't like drinking biodiesel when it's cold, so he'll actually have to BUY some dinosaur juice to get it started.
It's funny, but when you have to buy fuel for your car, you realise how expensive it is! It makes me laugh when I get accused of owning a planet-destroying gas guzzler, it's almost old enough to vote, is fairly cheap to run, and stops waste veg oil going to landfill. On the downside, it can be cold and temperamental in the winter, and it is a bit noisy. If you've got a newish diesel car, please, please check your manual before putting bio in, as some folks that make it and sell it on don't wash it properly, and it can contain methanol which attacks your fuel pipes. Sorry for going off-topic, bit of a tree-hugging hippy at heart (even though I do drive an old landy!)
Yesterday looked so lovely from indoors, I planned to rush out and leap about doing things. By the time I had pegged put a line of washing I couldn't feel my fingers so abandoned the idea and stayed indoors.
It is grey and boring this morning but it has been raining so I assume it is not quite so cold.
I have such a long list of "jobs to do" in the garden I am spoilt for choice, hoping to cross off one or two today.
Same happened to me in the greenhouse last weekend, Joyce. I removed the old soil from the borders and then realised I had no feeling left in my fingers. It's supposed to be a bit warmer in there, too!
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
According to the latest forecast-in the next few days those who have sun will get cloud-and those who have cloud will have sun-but it remain cold for the foreseeable future with only a slight rise in temperatures and some hard frosts especially in the north.
I'm just off to put in some tete a tete daffs bought in the green from Aldi this morning. 4 pots for £2.99. Got 12 pots plus 4 other pots for £11.96. Great for filling gaps and I've got plenty of those at this time of year. Verdun, you have inspired me to plant more Hellebores, too, but will shell out full prices for decent ones.

Mummy MP, I think you should start a thread about bio alternatives to conventional items. I'm well impressed.
