Plum tree problems

image

My plum tree is covered in a sticky substance there is so much that it is dripping on the plants below, there are a few greenfly but I'm not sure they could produce this much "sticky stuff". On the plus side the little birds seem to love it.

I don't want to spray with chemicals for fear of killing the birds, I have been trying to wash it off but without much success, any advice please.

In a world where you can be anything, always be kind.

Myosotid23. I can't tell from the pic but it could be canker, if it's coming from the branches and trunk, usually it happens when the tree starts to grow but there's nothing you can do about that.
