Need some help identifying this shrub please

Can anyone help me out by identifying this rather overgrown shrub - I want to prune it back but I'm unsure of how to go about it.

    To put a photo on here you have to click on the tree icon and follow instructions.

    You cant do this from iphones though.

    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
