Blight

The latest posting on your site suggested Bordeaux or similar to use now to prevent blight on toms and pots.  Bordeaux and copper based treatments have been withdrawn.  What can be used instead?

I agree - I don't use anything on my tomatoes (or on potatoes when I grow them ).

Good ventilation, careful watering, plenty of air flow around the plants and twice daily minimum inspection and the picking off of any suspect leaflets at the first signs of blight seems to work for me.

And if a decision is made to spray, the spray has to be preventive, before the first symptoms of infection appear. Spraying after their appearance is pretty much a waste of time.

  • Can peppers, melons, cucumbers and sweet peas get blight.  All these plants have started to have light patches starting to appear on the leaves.

Light patches on peppers can be sun burn, or if yellowing, underfeeding or overwatering.

And melon and cucumber leaves are prone to diseases like mildew, particularly if the foliage gets wet during watering.
