White powder stuff on leaves, stems and new buds of patio buddleja

Hi please

my patio buddleja was growing really well but all of a sudden white powder stuff (that I can remove with my finger) has appeared on the top stems, leaves and buds. What is this and is my plant ruined? can I resolve this problem as I was really looking forward to seeing the blooms.

Many thanks

Also when there are too many plants in the vicinity which creates more humidity. I'd expect a buddleia to shrug that off fairly easily though. I assume it's in a pot Maria - move it into an area where there's more space for it and see if that helps. Bit of air round it image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

  • Thanks everyone for helping me out ! I've moved it into a bigger pot for now. It's bucketing down here now I'll give the aspirin mix a go when stops raining.

then I'll ignore it when doing the rounds with the watering can on a warm evening !

Thought I'd just mention that some varieties of buddleja do naturally have a sort of powdery look due to fine silvery hairs on the young stems and leaves which is just part of the attraction of the plant and nothing to worry about. image

....oh it IS in a pot then.   I water everything in pots !  Buddleia is really so much better off if it is planted in the ground.

    Dove....this powery stuff wipes off.......image

Yes, just thought I'd mention it in case someone comes along at a later date with a similar query - I didn't mean that it was a possible diagnosis for the OP's plant.
