After five years of good healthy growth, my phoetinia ( now seven feet tall) is losing all its leaves and I fear it is dying. The only difference in my handling of it this year versus previous years is that I did not prune it back this year. Also, as I was away for two months , I installed a watering system whose rotating head would sprinkle water over it twice a day for half an hour.
The soil is acid ( old forest ground)

many thanks Verdun. Yes, we have had a dried period but my water sprinkler covered the phoetinia twice a day for half an hour each time. I will follow your advise about pruning back to buds or shoots. Thanks again !
