Pond pump has died

Hello, Just a quick question.  I moved into my new house last year, there is a pond  a fair distance from the house and it had a pump that, lets just say, wasn't wired in safely.  This pump has now given up so I should really take this oppurtunity to replace the pump and electircal supply and do it properly.  However this is going to take me some time to get around to doing.

Therefore my question is - how long have I got before the pond goes stagnant? There are no fish in it but plenty of plant material and tadpoles.  Its approx 50 cm deep and maybe 2.5m by 1.5m across at its widest point.  Is there anything I should be doing in the meantime - before i get the oppurtunity to give the pond and its electrics a proper overhaul?

Do nothing except keep it topped up with water if it is evaporating.

We had a pond about 3x3 mtrs never had a pump or filter, they sort themselves out. Just throw some oxygenates in an twiddle a stick in it when you see it getting a bit green.image

If the pond doesn't have fish it doesn't need a pump - just plenty of oxygenating plants growing in the water (Native Hornwort is a good one) and some plants that provide shade on the surface like water lilies or water soldier.

Lots available from here http://www.puddleplants.co.uk/ who are happy to advise if you phone or email them.

We have a wildlife pond used by frogs, newts, toad and the occasional grass snake as well as pondsnails and lots of insects etc.  We use Blagdon Barley Straw Extract and their Bio-active Sludge Control to deal with algae, blanket weed and duckweed.
