broad beans black with blackfly!

With the confidence of a "newbie" I was rather pleased with my broad bean plants and was enjoying watching their flowers develop. Then I went away for an overnight residential with my class and when I came back I had been invaded! Have sprayed the plants and pinched out the growing tip but plants still covered 2 hrs later. Help??!! Feeling not so confident now......!

    Hi Sarah don't give up things like this will happen, try to hose them down with water, you could try a rhubarb leaf spray you have to keep doing it until there dead.You might see ants crawling over them they are farming them.

    Some of our dahlias were rife with them, I sprayed them with soapy water and were dead pretty quickly, the ants are all over them now.  Pinch out the growing tips.

    Thanks! Will try soapy water first. Haven't heard of Rhubabrb leaf spray. Will look it up. just had pea risotto with our peas though so all is not lost!
