reassurance needed

Hi, I've just realised that I have been trying to drown my new nectarine tree! I was out watering the garden after such a warm day and the pot it was in was still damp. I thought it was odd so put my fingers into the compost and it was sodden
I have repotted into really gritty fresh compost and obviously not watered. Is there anything else I should do? Do you think it will recover?
Its the first time I have tried a fruit tree in a pot so any advice would be appreciated
Thanks

You don't mention it looking poorly, so I should imagine all will be fine
sorry no, leaves were starting to fall off, about 6, and a few were a bit crispy looking. It seems it takes me a while to catch on
Still doesn't sound too severe - unless you only have 10 leaves...! I should imagine with your help today that the tree will recover. I don't know much about them tho, so am sure someone else will step in. Have you googled to see the best way to care for them? Give you more tips on watering and food etc. Good luck!
Thanks Blighty and Tetley, fingers crossed. It was one of those duh! moments, but at least you think I have a chance
You could try putting the pot in semi shade , see if this makes any difference specially in this hot weather.
Thanks granma will do
