the big leopard slugs only eat dead stuff(leaves etc) and the smaller slugs that so eat your plants.
before i knew the above i used to put them in the compost bin with a brick on the top and they would still squeeze themselves out of the lid. since ive stopped putting them in the bin i haven't seen a small slug, think they are doing their job well by eating them.
on a serious note, of the 5 sunflowers I planted, 5 broke ground. I was so chuffed because the seeds were ones I had harvested from sunflowers I grew 3 years ago.
Down to 4 now. I went out the other morning and 1 had been decapitated. Its stem had been thoroughly chomped on, leaving the top half of my sunflower hanging by a thread with its leaves in the dirt.
No need for a SOCO, I spotted that tell tale shimmering silver trail.
No one has mentioned the Biological slug deterrent, Nematodes. Bought in powder form, mix with water and spray on the ground when the soil temp reaches 5 degs C in spring. These microscopic bugs seek out and burrow into slugs and then feast on them. Problem solved....

I use beer traps to kill the slugs in my garden. Can I put the dead slugs plus beer into my compost bin?
I've heard that they can absnail down tall buildings at a single bound.
Cut them in half and leave them for birds etc
