Please save my broken climber

A family dog attacked my climber yesterday and broke off one of the two main stems. It feeds the climber that has grown all round two walls! So...I cut the broken stem on the diagonal and put it in a large bucket of water. If it grows roots in a week I will plant it out with some hormone rooting powder. But the leaves on that stem are already looking very limp. Have

  • Was it completely broken off?  I would have taped the ends together if it wasn't.  That worked with a climbing rose that I had, the stem almost snapped right through in the wind.  I made a wooden splint for it and taped it and it worked.  Good luck!!

I think it's Boston Ivy, which is very vigorous. It will grow back. In a couple of years you will probably be doing some frantic hard pruning! But it's very pretty in autumn.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
