Mares Tail

Hi All

I have a back garden that is all tarpaulin and stones. I plan on lifting it all up and planting veg next spring.

My problem is my garden is infested with Mares Tail. I know that the roots are like spaghetti under the tarpaulin.

What i want to know is if anyone of you has had any success in killing it off or at least bringing it under control? and if so, how long have you had to leave the ground before you can grow on it?

I know this is going to be hard work and frustrating.
