Dieback in shrubs

My garden is in the Tamar valley close to the River and to the woodlands across the river Might either of these contribute to the problem and please any solutions to prevent my other shrubs dieing

Is the ground constantly wet or does it become flooded Judith? What kind of soil do you have? Rhodies and Azaleas don't like alkaline. Anything been sprayed that you're aware of close to their location?

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I had a rose that suddenly died last year, when i dug it up and looked at the roots and peeled back the bark I saw the tell tale signs of honey fungus. I also had a choisya that died suddenly. All these plants are on the RHS list of plants susceptible to honey fungus.

  • Thank you all for your advice. All the shrubs are mature ones and the ground is acidic and although close to the river the ground is sloping and well drained so I think it could well be honey fungus that is the problem so i had better look at the roots and find out more about honey fungus
