Small Dried-up Strawberries
Hi All,
I have quite a few strawberry plants in pots on my balcony. They started cropping well, but recently most of the strawberries are much smaller an sort of dried out. Is it as obvious as under watering? Do they need to be kept pretty moist? Or could there be another issue? the plants seem otherwise healthy.
Thanks a lot for any suggestions!

I have strawbs in pots ommthree- they need plenty of nutrition as they use it quickly. I often get little ones as you describe and just remove them. They sometimes get overshadowed by the foliage as well so I remove a few bits of that to let light in.
Anything on a balcony will need more tlc just because of the location - exposure to drying winds for instance.

Thanks Fairygirl. I am fertilising regularly, but maybe I'll up the dose and cut back a bit of the foliage.
Make sure they have adequate drainage as well and change some of the soil/compost in your pots every year too. I'd top them up with some FYM mixed with fresh compost when you do that. You can get in bags at GCs and diy stores. Remove runners - peg them down into their own little pots with a bit of wire, and remove from the parent once they start growing. Pot them on for future stock
