Weak Cornflower
Hi, I sowed some cornflower seeds in spring and they are now just starting to flower and are around 70-80cm in height and are in full sun most of the day. The other day after some rain I noticed they were all nearly flat to be ground. I tried picking them up but thy just flop back down and I also tried to stake them but after more rain last night they look very sorry for themselves. Has anyone else experienced this or is there a certain way to grow these because to honest they look such flimsy plants that it doesn't look like they could withstand any kind of light wind or rain? Thanks Craigh

I grow them every year but find that sowing them late summer/autumn gives me earlier flowers and stronger plants. I don't put them into a greenhouse, they sit outside usually in something like a windowbox before they're transferred to their planting spot. That said, I plant them in a group and use supports around them. At the very least a couple of bamboo canes with some string around it to help hold them up. You could try that now and you should find an improvement.
