I can't sleep because I'm worried that I'll go to plant prison for murder.

Good morning, I'm new to gardening. Very new! I've recently got my own garden. I've installed a patio and lawn, and now I've just put some shrubs in. My whole garden has been done with a very low budget and with some carbon friendly rules (everything must be grown/sourced within 15miles of my house). So, I was on gumtree and found a lady who was getting rid of a load of shrubs. I went round and dug them up, taking as many roots with me as possible. I asked her to water them well the night before, and I've been soaking them twice a day since. I also planted them with a handful of bone meal. Some of them look fine, but two are looking awful! The Japanese maple, and one im not sure or the name of. I realise there couldn't be a worse time to dig up an relocate mature shrubs, but is there anything I can do to rescue them? Do I let them wilt and hope they come back? Do I cut away loads of growth to make it concentrate on its roots?! Help!

    Hi Sam image

You may be new to gardening but it sounds as if you've definitely got some good gardening instincts - watering before digging them up was a definite good thing!

Can you post some pics of your shrubs to give us more idea what your options are?

Ok cool I'll sort this out. I could do with some help working out what the plants are too!

Sounds like you're doing all the right things, so I think you'll escape trial for first degree murder! Is there any chance you're watering some of them TOO much?

    PS.... where are you?

Hey, I'm in Harringey in N London. It was 27 degrees yesterday and we've had no rain, so hopefully I've not over watered them. I couldn't get the photo this to work, so I've added the plants to a garden photo album. I've I.D'd (read the label) for the peonies and the camellia japonica. The other ones are a mystery, especially the shrubby one with the long stem (that's the other one that's wilting loads) and the very bright green one that looks a little bit like marijuana

I've just uploaded a new photo of the stalky shrub so you can see the extent of the wilt

    Hi Sam,

of the shrub pics I think the first is a sarcococca. The cannabis is a choisya, the one called 'Aztec Pearl' maybe. The one with the purplish divided leaves is a Sambucus (elder) cultivar. I can't see the little tree clearly enough to ID or recognize the casualty. Someone else may know the tree but, if not, a close-up of the leaves will probably do it

    The other 2 you know.
