PETUNIAS
I have Petunias planted in 30 pots & they have grown beautifully with a huge amount of flowers. I am now about to start to deadhead these plants. I know how to deadhead but the problem I have is identifying which are buds about to open & which buds have flowered & are about to die. I realize that sometimes this is obvious that the flower has actually wilted & is about to die. But in many cases petals on flowers are tightly closed & it then becomes difficult to identify whether flower is about to open or has already flowered & about to die. I hope I have explained this right?
Do Petunias close their petals before they die?????? Or do dead flowers just drop off?????
Is there any way of positively identifying which - alive or dead - bud to deadhead?????

Petunia's DON'T close before they die, closed buds should be a new flower, the dying go limp then brown. Anyway if you cut a few off by mistake there'll be plenty more to come.
