Any Advice please, weed or plant

Can anyone tell me please if this a plant ? I found it in my pile of top soil amongst weeds and plants but I have no idea, I put it in a pot just in case but there's loads of it all around thank you in advance

marestail, get rid of it , Get rid of it a very long way away from your home. Council tip sounds best to me.
it survived the ice age as the roots have been recorded 300m ( yes three hundred metres) below ground
Did that arrive in topsoil that you bought and paid for??????????????

The top soil was free,there's been some good plants in it so far unlucky to get this though
Topsoil by virtue of its name, free or not, should be weedfree! and plant free! The fact that it has marestail in it would make me think to get rid of all of the 'topsoil'. It certainly isn't topsoil as we know it.
