Sand/Grit

Hi can anyone advise what is the difference between concrete sand and builders/mortar sand, these are the ones that my local BM sell, and which one if any can I use with compost for my plants?

if you handle them, you'll find the builder sand has a much softer feel to it than the concrete (sharp) sand

All to do with the particle size. Soft sand has smaller, more rounded particles so it sticks together. Sharp sand has larger more angular particles so it falls apart.

Rub it between your fingers, sharp sand feels gritty. Soft sand will make a ball when squeezed.

Sharp sand is what you need for adding to soil.
