Red robin tree and shrubs

I have both a tree  and shrub last year the red robin shrub looked worse fo wear  and someone said that I should give it a good prune which I did it has grown back but the leaves look healthy but seem to be curling  the red robin tree has now started to drop leaves and the ones that are still on it are drooping I prune and fed it I have had it for years  the shrub and tree are on opposits sides of the garden is it time to get rid of them and plant something else Please could someone suggest what to do .
