Water Melons

Any tips and advice for growing water melons in pots in a cold greenhouse would be appreciated please.  Our two plants are just beginning to spread, but there is only one flower between the two plants - don't I have to have two flowers to pollinate them?

Keep them well watered and feed them once the fruit sets.  After you have one or two fruit on a vine, nip off the growth tip so the plant will put energy into those fruit.  Water from below (not on the leaves), and keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.  Deep daily soakings are best, rather than just a bit of water on the soil surface.

  • Thank you Blue Onion, very helpful tips, which I will start to put into practise tomorrow, any ideas about the flowers - it appears that one small flower has a fruit forming behind it so far.
