Because green and black fly like sucking sap from them! Spray with soapy water.

  • Failing that give them a squish image

  • thanks iam new with these flowers.lol

  • ive done both,thanks

  • Try boiling rhubarb leaves, then when the water is cool (having discarded the leaves)  dilute it on a dry and spray the dahlias. Works on broad beans so why not on dahlias. Sounds a lot of work but really it isn't. Then leave overnight. It leaves dead bodies on the plants which can be hosed off.

Worth a try. Best of luck

  • thanks,growing together,thats a great name.

  • Thanks Caroline. I work with special needs adults on a horticultural project called Growing Together so took the name from there. The rhubarb tricj really works. We had five 30 ft rows of broad beans on the project area, sprayed then with rhubarb solution nad next day hosed of the dead. All gone that quickly and this was a good three weeks ago and they haven't returned so it DOES work. It also works on dahlias and roses as a friend of mine tried it and got rid of all the white fly. it's not too onerous a job boiling the leaves and then spraying either. Good luck.
