Acer mould or fungus?
Hi I have some white mould on one Acer and brown canker looking growth on another trunk in the front garden. What are they and what should I do about it? I cant see where I can add photos.

First one is scale insect and I think the second one might be as well, just a heavier infestation. If there are not too many and you can reach them, you can just wipe them with a cotton wool bud dipped in meths or white spirit. If there are really too many to wipe off you may need to use an insecticide but try to avoid that if you can.
I think it is Horse Chesnut scale. I remember this insect suddenly appearing about 15-20 years ago and they seem to smother the trunks of Limes, maples and horse chestnuts. You also found occasional ones on other trees except members of the rose family. Then nature balanced itself and though you still see them the mass infestations have ceased [or a t least around here].
