Japanese knotweed?

EmilyJEGEmilyJEG Posts: 10
Someone has posted a picture of this plant on another website and everyone is saying it's Japanese Knotweed. I have very little knowledge of JK but it doesn't seem to match the pictures that I've seen online - the leaves seem more heart shaped and the veins in the leaves seem to head towards the base of the leaf rather than to the centre vein (if that makes sense). The leaves also seem to be uncurling from the top of the leaf rather than the bottom like some of the JK pics show. Saying that, the stems look very similar. What do you reckon? I don't mind being wrong, but just want to make sure that the person who spotted it in their garden isn't worrying unnecessarily. http://goo.gl/BmmWPd Thanks! image

Post a photo of your particular weed and you can get instant reassurance (or not).

Yeah they said it was. It probably is knotweed, just I can't work out why it looks different to the pics I saw. Will be looking out for it in my own garden from now onimage Next door but one has an overgrown garden and I dread to think what is lurking in there!

Yep I think he was going to try getting rid ASAP (as I said, this is someone on another forum but it's not a forum about plants so thought I'd check somewhere more specific). I briefly panicked as I have a plant with similar leaves but it's totally different everywhere else - it's shoots from a tree that has been cut down.

Thanks, the person has added some new photos - http://goo.gl/jw8GHJ - are the 'buds' flowers or new leaves?

Any chance of  few more photos. I can no longer access the ones you put on before (don't know why) but I don't think they were pictures of houttuynia cordata

    In the sticks near Peterborough
