Broad bean pods turning black

Some of my broad bean pods are turning black and shrivelled, particularly from the tips. It has affected the newest small pods, the largest pods seem healthy and all leaves seem fine. The tiniest pods have shrivelled to a crisp. Can anyone tell me what has happened? This is my first year of gardening and any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Probably not pollinated. Pick them off they will be fine now.

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • Thank you Lyn! That makes sense because it did have a case of robber bees during flowering. I'm surprised though, I thought there would be no pod at all if it didn't pollinate rather than a black shrivelled one....does this mean the flower self pollinated or is it that it didn't pollinate at all?
