I have only just joined the forum as I've only just started gardening properly been too busy bringing up my children but everyone has been so helpful, friendly and experts on  plants that I thought I might ask can this Lille ( my son bought me today) go in my garden he took all the labels off, so I don't know what to do with it! I have it in my kitchen it smells really strong and my daughters told me it Staines your sides all around it, so I'm hoping it can go out in the garden, any help and advice would be brill thank you in advance image

  • Yes it can go in the garden - mine come up every year. It does have a pest...the red  lily beetle. Just squash between your fingers if you see one. image

I've always grown my lillies in pots in a very sunny spot Nikki and they have been excellent - they get about 7 hours of sunshine at this time of the year (for me, this is near the back of my house where they also get a bit of protection from the wind).

hi there! i planted asiatic lillies a few years ago at front of flower bed, sunny spot - even though sun is a rare thing in scotland - they have come up year after year with no special care or attention from me. i think i may unwittingly have found a perfect spot that suits them, but they don't seem to demand anything special except the usual watering.

    good luck with yours!

Remove the stalks which carry the spent heads and just leave the foliage to die down. Lilies disappear for the winter but next spring they'll start back into growth. I give mine a liquid feed as they die back. Watch out for slugs and  snails when the new growth emerges - they love the juicy little new shoots!

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
