NGS Open Gardens
I've started visiting a few open gardens this year after Monty Don recommended it to be the best way to learn about gardens.
I have to say it has inspired me to look into opening my garden, but I may be a few years off as need to ditch doing PTA work at my daughters school, and also need my garden to mature a bit more.
Do any of you open your gardens up ? Would love to hear about the process if you do, or what you think of open gardens you go to ? Good and bad points.
Thank you x

That is the advantage of opening for the ngs. If you're accepted the public liability is theirs

I am opening mine on Sunday - it is/was such a lovely garden, (I take no credit, we moved in a year or so ago and it had been well planned), I thought it was a nice idea to share it and also a lovely way to raise money. Now with less than a week to go I am worrying like mad that it won't be 'good enough', the weeds are growing faster than I can get to them and I am fretting no one or everyone will come. Also well aware that projects I started are not quite ready and have a list of things I had intended to get around to.
Saying that I have visited others and really enjoyed them, found it all very inspiring and nice to talk to other gardeners.
Hopefully after Sunday all the panic and dread will disappear and we will all have a lovely time and of course the charity gets a nice donation - hopefully!
I opened my garden in May with the new French Open Gardens scheme for children with cancer and leukaemia. The same scheme as Dordogne Damsel above. I was very stressed before, but it was fine. 57 people came and it was a lovely day. Then I had to open an extra day as a Gardening Club of 40 people wanted to come. If you are doing teas and cake you need extra help.
Have sometimes thought of it fleetingly when the garden is looking lovely and there is no-one to share it with, but like Pansyface's, it isn't really suitable.
In any case it wouldn't work as only access is through neighbour's farm - half a mile, single track, gated and full of big potholes and you could only fit one or two cars on our yard!
I'll just have to post more pictures on here and that way I can hide the less successful/unfinished bits!
