When is a scented rose not......?
bought a David Austin rose...Olivia Austin ...earlier this year. Advertised as "best ever" and with strong scent.
I'm not really a rose fan but this rose was purchased as a memorial to my mother.
It looks good...healthy ....never sprayed ......with several blooms but it has no scent whatsoever.
I contacted David Austin and posted a picture and they confirmed it is Olivia Austin adding that the scent will come with later blooms. Since I don't really grow roses, does this make sense to those of you who do? Anyone growing Olivia Austin?
Without scent this rose does not fulfill its advertised criteria so not really wanted.

Some roses do that Verdun, little or no scent at first and as the bloom really opens the scent develops, just one of the characteristics of some roses. If you don't want it, send it to me, I'll find a home for it.
Some roses don't have hugh scent their first season and need to be more established by the second year. I have wild edric, there was nothing the first year after the third year, the neighbours across the street were commenting on it. Hope its as simple as that, but sorry don't grow olivia austin myself
Verdun, have just been talking to a friend who was trained at Dickson Roses, he said that after planting they didn't let roses bloom the 1st year, because not strong enoug
