First Flower Bed, Beneath Amelanchier?

Hey guys,

I have a very rectangular slab of lawn, with a house i just bought. It is not very deep but rather wide, and just looks a little boring! There are no flower beds, just shrubs. The only thing in the garden, is an amelanchier, which sits in partial sun, on one edge of the lawn, and I thought I may dig a circular flower bed (my first one) and plant up some colour...

Any idea on what plants to plant, or indeed whether a flower bed under a small amelanchier is even a good idea?

Cheers

Andy

Great idea. Geranium 'Rozanne' would be my first recommendation, a no-brainer plant!

    Try this link:

It has lots of ideas.  You'll need to think about aspect of the actual border, soil type, etc. and it will also need more watering than a normal flowerbed because of the tree's thirst but I think it will 'lift' your garden.
