Potato Advice...?

I harvested some spuds today and the look great - husband just cooking them for me tea! But I had strange results that have got me thinking about the best way to grow them in future.... I normally grow them in old sacks, starting in a few inches and earthing up as they grow but this year I had a couple of seed potatoes left over so I chucked em in a pot and let them get on with it, no earthing up or anything other than a feed a couple of times. To my surprise, I had a much better yield from the second lot. I remember reading somewhere that earthing up results in no more spuds... Sooo I am wondering how you all grow your spuds and what sort of results you get?? xx

Not sure if there is one way better than another, I've tried rotted manure in one trench and nothing in the next trench, not too much difference. Earthed up high one trench and just a small amount in the next, watered quite a bit and not as much in the other, all different ways and end up not knowing which is best!! just that they taste so much better than from the shops
Thanks guys! I am ob the look out for some economical tubs!
They were yummy though!!!x
