peonies

I have just been given 3 bare root peonies Can anyone tell me how to plant the rhizome, horizontal or vertical? There is the start of growth so the growing eye is easy to find. Hope someone can help, I would hate to lose them, thanks

I'd go for the growing eye facing upwards, no more than 2 inches deep. Not sure about planting bare root at this time of the year though!
I thought it strange to. As there are shoots emerging I think i have to, but perhaps in a pot rather than in the ground? I appreciate the advice, thanks
If you've got them, plant them. Have douibts like Paul but they won't improve with keeping
In the sticks near Peterborough
Great, thank you, it's the longest day so I'll go and do it now
and keep my fingers crossed!
I'd go for a pot rather than the ground and see how it goes: good luck
Thanks, I'm definitely away now!!!
