Garlic disease

My lovely Garlic Marco's have suddenly withered! the stems have rotted off and the bulbs are covered in a white / green mould. I've dug them out and thrown them away, but very sad. They were doing so well!  It is a new raised bed this year, never grown garlic in it before. Nice open and sunny site.  What went wrong?  and are my onions at risk, growing in the same bed?

No, not really. And its happened while they were still in the ground. The tops have gone like raffia and the necks have rotted. The outer skins have a white / greenish mound all over in the worst cases. If I rub away the skins, the bulbs don't look too bad but are a bit slimy looking. Don't fancy eating them ! I'm gutted. They were doing so well.

My Senshu onions nearby seem to be fine, and I have Solent Wight garlic in another bed which is also fine, so far. Think I'll dig them up early just in case.

Oh dear!!  All my garlics have now gone the same way!  What a waste of time! Ive tended and watched them right through the winter - all to get nothing! Don't think I'll bother again.
