Double trailing Petunias

I have planted up double trailing Petunias and when watering I notice brown leaves and the plant looks as though it is dying. I have been taking them off the plants when de heading and I am not sure if I am doing the right thing. I seem to have a gap now in my hanging basket. Pleas has anyone got any advice for me.
