Hi Folks climbers i am looking at clematis montana & clematis rebecca my question is i have 4 fence panels with a width of 8 feet& 7feet high can anyone tell me how many plants i will need for each panel to get a good covering.

    One Montana would cover all 4 panels after a couple of years and won't stop there!

    Rebecca is a different group and quite a shy grower so will get swamped by the Montana and is a different pruning group (2) so you will have a problem pruning them properly once intertwined.  If you were only growing Rebecca or other group 2s, I'd say you need 3 plants per panel.

    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

    Hi Bob think i will shelve the Montana & keep the Rebecca can you suggest any other climbers that fall into group 2 .that i can have a look at .
