salix flamingo

Hi

I am wanting to buy 2 salix flamingo trees to stand in pots outside my front door but after reading some other posts I'm not sure putting them in pots is a good thing? The two pots I have are 38 cm wide. Are these two small? Also it will be facing north so we only tend to get the sun later on in the day. Please advice if suitable. Many thanks
