Installing water butt

I've bought a sankey water butt. My problem is the downpipe seems cemented in and therefore i can't shift it downwards to install the diverter.
What shall I do? This must be a fairly common problem!?

Thanks for the response but the instructions in your link, to me, still read that you have to reconnect the lower section of the down pipe by shifting it up into the diverter, after having moved it down to make way for installing the diverter.
I really hope I'm wrong as this is driving me bonkers!
