topsoil

Can anyone help? I had 2 tonne loose  topsoil last week from a garden centre and noticed its full of stones 30-40 mm, sand, clay and lumps of black. Complained to company who have refused the pictures I have sent is the topsoil they sent. Refused to come and look at it and refused a refund. I'm so disgusted with topsoil and customer service.  I'm now stuck with 2 tonne of rubbish that needs to be either removed or raked and sieved before I can proceed with my project. Anyone help.

How did you pay for it Jo12? If by credit card you have recourse through disputing the transaction. I't's not topsoil, it's subsoil so not as described. If it's from a garden centre it's their responsibility to rectify the situation so take them a sample as your contract was with them. You can complain to trading standards as well and finally it's a contravention of the sale of goods act, so you will have a recourse in law, so be brave and if gentle persuasion doesn't work go for them. Also if they are on facebook, you can slate them there, its very public and usually the result is quicker than anything else mentioned above.

I don't understand why some companies think it's acceptable to palm customers off with shoddy goods image

Dave's advice seems good to me jo. Hope you can get some resolution. Mentioning that you are a member of well know gardening forum might also help. image

Thank you all for comments. I shall not let this complaint go. I am a very keen gardener, so why would I want to put their rubbish in my garden. Fingers crossed.image

Had a reply from garden centre still not admitted sent me sub SOIL but have agreed to send a tonne of topsoil. Just received it and wow what a difference I've actually got a ton of decent SOIL. Just got a whole weekend now though of clearing the first two ton of stones. Thanks all for advice.

Well, looks like they've admitted liability then ... now all they have to do is send someone to take the rubbish away and then deliver your second ton of topsoil that you paid them for - then you'll have no reason for further complaints will you?

I wonder if they realise yet that  we all know about it on the GW Forum - name and shame???

I was so lucky last autumn.  I ordered topsoil from Bradford's Building Supply in Trowbridge and they called to say the order would be delayed as the first batch from their supplier wasn't up to their standards.  This thread and others like it inspired me to send a belated thank you email to them for dealing with the problem before I had to!

Glad Bradford Builders  were helpful. Singletons nursery have been an awful company to deal with they have even accused us of putting stones there. We have started clearing away their mess, but found we are so annoyed at how much work it has now created that trading standards have been notified, so hopefully no one else has this problem with them. what has annoyed us the most is the fact there Has been no appology and spoken to disgracefully. This forum is amazing and thank you to everyone who has given advise.
