Large nurseries in Kent / East Sussex

We are new to gardening and looking for a large nursery we can drive to from East London preferably in Kent or East Sussex so we can make a day of it. We are looking to buy a tree and climbers for our small garden and as we would like to go to as large a nursery as possible so we can see a good selection. We have no idea where to go! Please advise.

Have you tried Google or do you need personal recommendations?

  • Thanks - I have tried Google but it's difficult to tell which are large and good.

I've been to several of those in the second list. I live in France and have family in Eastbourne and East Sussex, but it's a bit of a drive from London.

Paradise Park in Newhaven is big and has a huge selection of seeds. It has a big selection of clematis and climbers, also perennials. In fact mostly what you'd expect from a big garden Centre. I love places like Merriments and Marchants Hardy Plants, but they are more for perennials. They both have lovely gardens open to the Public, worth a visit for that.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
