I was bought a small fir tree last xmas and I potted it on in March this year, I used compost garden soil and grit,it's growing a treat but I'm wondering if I had to pot it on again would ericaceous cpmpost be wise to add to the mix so I can leave it longer in a bigger pot?

I've been told that gathering any dropped needles and including them back into the compost helps keep it acidic enough, not sure. Lovely healthy plantimage

I have seen Monty add pine needles as a mulch but not sure if it was for extra fertility, The University round the corner from me has fur tree's in their grounds, I'll pop in there with permission and collect some fallen needles, thank you Cathy.  I hope to bring the tree into my single glazed frost free porch at xmas and put some battery operated lights on the branches, then back out in March.
