Comfrey

Does anyone make and use comfrey for feeding plants ?

i have got comfrey growing in the garden and I thought I would give it a go but I'm not sure how and is it worth it.

do I just use the leaves or do I use the stem as well ? How long before you can use it Are there any plants you shouldn't use it on, can I use it to feed tomatoes ?

Any advice would be good, thanks. image

It's pretty basic Chrissy, chop the leaves and stem off at ground level and put them in a bucket of water, leave for a week or two, usually two in my case strain them off and use the liquid. I dilute mine a bit and compost the leftovers.

I chop the leaves and stems into small pieces and as Dave said put them into a container of water  and stir daily, when the bubbles stop I use at the ratio of 1 part comfrey to 10 parts water.

I leave the material in the water and top up with more plant and water as required

  • Thanks both, I'm off to do it now.

Can do exactly the same with nettles.

  • Is it worth doing and what plants benefit ?

Time will tell Chrissy. I'm going to give it a go, I've got a net bag to hold the leaves in a tub that has a tap, so hope the liquid flows freely.image

Full of nitrogen, for all green leaf plants.
