Name this climber!?

Evening everyone, I've googled, I've searched and scoured garden centres but I give up ... We planted this climber (yes we actually planted it!) after it was given to us, it is growing well, has a lot of new growth and is quite fast but it doesn't appear to flower or at least it hasn't yet.. We have no idea what it is ...

It looks like Salix caprea to me

Is it really a climber or is it just up against a fence?

Looks more like a willow than any climber I know...

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Agreed at is a Salix,  probably growing from seed and just making use of the frame.

  • Hmmm interesting. I assumed it was a climber but you are right there is a trellis behind which I guess it made use of. Cant say I'm overly struck with it but then its a shame to chop it down ... Oh what to do .. !

  • Ive just read on the RHS site that they do develop catkins and some variegated leaves so I might just prune the top out so it fills out a bit and see what it does. Its had a stay of execution!

    Thanks everyone!
