Red Thread Lawn

I have red thread.  I have been a bit slow to realise what it is as I thought it was just a few dry patches.  However, now it is making the lawn very unsightly.  I have ordered some stuff from Bayer which is recommended to control the fungi but I was just wondering whether anyone has any other practical advice.  I love a lush green lawn and everyone else's looks better than mine at the moment - sigh!  Thanks in anticipation..
