Newbie gardener

Poppy24Poppy24 Posts: 8

hi everyone I'm a newbie gardener. I have lots of spring and summer plants so I'm looking for some that flower in the winter. I love the black hellebores but I'm not when is the best time to buy and plant them? I've seen one at T&M but I've never bought plants online before. Any advice gratefully received!

If you want to buy hellebores, the best time to buy them is when they are in flower, then you get to pick exactly what you want.

The best place to buy hellebores is Ashwood nurseries in the West Midlands. They do mail order if you know what you want.

Hi Poppy, nice to have you here, I bought my hellebores from Hayloft online but some other people dont like the.

Most would rule out T and M. If you only want one plant you may be better going to a gardeen centre or nursery and choosing. If you dont mind smaller ones, like i prefer, Hayloft will sell them nearer the Autumn. They will need potting up and caring for a while. I am griwing mine from seeds but dont expect flowers until next spring or even the one after.

Barnsdale gardens is good for mailorder plants, their selection is always changing so check it towards autumn for hellebores. I love sarracocca confusa shrub for winter, tiny white flower and perfume that can be smelt from 6ft away, followed by black berries.  Hope you find the black helleboresimage

Does anyone have a Hellebores x hybridus (Ashwood Garden Hybrids) Single Ruse Black Lenten Rose from Ashwood Nurseries?  It looks lovely but quite pricey so I don't want to risk killing it! It would go in a pot.
