Trailing gypsophila refuses to trail ...

I have two healthy gypsophila which were quite beautiful last year and trailed down well. This year both have developed stubborn upright behaviour - although I have not done anything differently. I think now that the branches will snap in windy conditions. What should I do next year to revert to trailing ? many thanks for your help.
