Lupins

I have grown some Lupins from seed, but I'm not sure how big they should be in their first year, mine are only a couple of inches tall, is this right?

Lorraine sounds OK you will have to grow them on and plant them out next year, they won't servive the winter if you plant them out.
  • I have just repotted them again, so will overwinter them in my conservatory and put them out next year. Thanks for your reassurance.

  • It was i think the end of last year when I collected the seeds and so this is really not even a year old, they have very good root system, so fingers crossed they survive for next year. Thanks

Hello Lorraine, depends on when you sowed the seeds.

Did you pot on?  Have you fed?  Not too much but a little dilute feed.

I would disagree there Verdun, I dont think seedlings two inche s tall should be fed, let them grow on at their own pace.  Pot on in fresh compost is all they will need. I have never fed a lupin, mine are huge plants now and the small ones ready for next spring will not be fed either.

I assume Lorraine has sowed these seeds this Spring, this being their first year.

I am just not one for feeding constantly, each to his own, Verdun.image

Flumpy, i am almost in Cornwall, 5 miles from the border, my daughter is though so whenever we have a day out, its always in Cornwall.

That reminds me, must get passport up to date!  Verdun can explain about that!!!
