Figs
in Fruit & veg
Hello.
Last year I bought a large 4ft fig that was in good nick with several fruits set. I placed it in a container on a south facing wall in my greenhouse. At the end of the season everything was fine all fruit and leaves dropped and the plant over wintered okay. This year I had full growth with several fruit setting and some growth. Problem!! Some of the leaves turned rusty, all the fruit and most of the leaves have fallen off. It looks quite sad. Please any advise.
Best Regards.

Thanks ??????
Is the pot draining properly? I lost a fig tree when the soil became waterlogged.
I think its a combination of not enough water and heat from the south wall. Iv'e moved it to a more shaded area.
Thanks.
I did not answer your original post because it wasn't very clear. What variety? It is usual for over-wintering fruit to fall off; it is usual to remove them in the Autumn at leaf fall if they are larger than a very small pea; that is recognisably a fig.
The fig is a Brown Turkey. The fruit grew to the size of a golf ball before falling off. Its been over 100* in the gh, recon this must be the cause.
Figs grow better fruit if roots are kept contained in a tight space.
