this is powdery mildew and yes it is affecting them, if untreated this problem can make crops inedible and the plants may eventually die..if it has not spread too far you can try and prune off the affected leaves
Just bought a gardening book, all natural pest control, etc. it says, spray the leaves both sides in full sun with a mix of 50% water and milk, which causes a natural antiviral effect. Has to be done in full sun.
