Perennial sweet peas

Hi Jo

Shell them, best shelled when picked, then they can dry completely.

Were they fully ripe before they were picked? They dry later but need to ripen on the plant.

Scarifing is often helpful for peas, not sure about this particular one. Rough them up a bit and soak in hot water. If they don't swell, not worth sowing

Be afraid, be very very afraid. Only plant them if you want them forever. They are tenacious plants. And with no smell, they should not really have the name of 'sweet' pea.

  • They are confined to the pergola!

  • And attacked with casual brutality if they dare to stray. One or two strands went under the lawn mower yesterday as they were brave enough to fall that way...

They are thugs , no scent and rampage everywhere , also the seem to be prone to a sort of mildew which is very disfiguring , but doesn't seem to weaken them !!
