I suspect you didn't harden them off properly for the beans, they take a week to 14 days to harden off properly and in a semi shaded position, before planting out. As for the lavender cuttings what are trying to root them in and it's only now I'm thinking of taking lavender cuttings and looking for the new non flowering shoots.

Maybe they didn't build up enough root system, you grew them in little seed pots, runners have long roots best grown in root trainers or if you don't want to go to any expense you can use toilet roll tubes or deep polystyrene cups. One in each.

They need to be about twelve inches tall before you harden them off over two weeks, even then it may be cold at nights. They need to be watered when they first go in the ground.

Did you dig a trench and fill it with compost, veg peelings, grass etc.

Lavender cuttings, I can't do those either, but I have a complete packet of seeds germinated. Don't beat yourself up over failures, we all had them when we were learning. You will find the best way to do things.

I have grown runner beans in toilet roll inners for a couple of years now with a varying degree of success, I found that by starting them off in April it could take three or four weeks for the plants to show and then the growth could be quite slow. This year I just planted the seeds direct in the ground at the end of May and now they are showing above ground and looking healthy. I won't bother with the toilet rolls again.

Plant them direct in the soil now, you might still have some success.
